Guest feedback
Guest feedback lets people without a Skyelight account, such as a client or a tester, leave feedback on one project. They pin comments like anyone else, and their threads land in your project with a Guest tag. Guests take no seat.
Guest feedback is on the Pro plan and above, and it’s off for every project until someone turns it on.
Turn it on
- Open the project and click Share, on the right just above the thread list.
- Turn on Guest Feedback.
Owners, admins and collaborators can turn it on. Reviewers see only Invite into project in the Share menu.
Turning it on gives the project a code, such as K7Q-M2X. The Share menu then
shows two ways in:
- A review link. “Share a review link and use the badge to pin as a guest.” Copy the address of one of the project’s preview URLs. For a Vercel preview with Deployment Protection, the copied link already gets guests past Vercel’s login. See Deployment bypass.
- The code. “Use this code for guest access in the Skyelight extension.” Copy it, or click Reset code to make a new one.
How guests join
- On a review link, with the review badge: the badge offers Pin as guest above Sign in. The guest types a name, and an email if they like, and starts pinning. No code is needed.
- In the Chrome extension, on any site: the guest clicks Continue as a guest, enters the code, a name and an optional email. This needs extension version 0.3.0 or later.
A guest needs a name of at least two characters. The email is optional, and Skyelight never sends anything to it.
What guests can do
A guest can:
- start threads and reply on their own threads;
- edit and delete what they wrote, and attach images;
- see their own threads, on the page and in the list.
A guest can’t see anyone else’s threads, including other guests’ and your team’s. They can’t assign, change a status or type, react, mention people, or send threads to Slack or Linear. Guests get no notifications.
What your team sees
- Guest threads show the guest’s name and a Guest tag in the thread list and the thread.
- When a guest gave an email, owners, admins and collaborators see a mail icon after the tag. Hover it to see the address, or click it to write to them. Reviewers don’t see guests’ emails.
- The thread list’s filter has From: Anyone, Team or Guests.
- N guests joined in the Share menu lists each guest with their email, if they gave one, and when they joined.
Guest threads count toward your organization’s automatic types and summaries, like any other thread.
Remove guests
In the Share menu, open N guests joined and click … beside a guest. You can remove them and keep their comments, or remove them and delete their comments.
| What you do | Who loses access |
|---|---|
| Remove one guest | That guest |
| Reset code | Every guest who joined with the old code. Guests who joined on a review link aren’t affected |
| Turn off Guest Feedback | Every guest |
| The plan drops below Pro | Every guest |
Access ends within about five minutes. Comments stay unless you chose to delete them.
Coming back
A guest stays signed in on the same browser: in the extension until they choose Leave guest mode, and on a review link for 30 days. On another browser or computer, or after leaving guest mode, they join again as a new guest and don’t see their earlier threads. Your team still sees those threads under the name they used.
Anyone with the code can join and type any name. Share it only with people you mean to invite, and reset it if it goes further. What Skyelight stores for a guest is in the Privacy Policy.
Invite someone instead
To give someone a full account, click Invite into project in the Share menu. The invite names the project, and accepting it takes them straight to it. Reviewers are free. See Managing users.
